Our Purpose
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office Training Unit is comprised of highly trained instructors that play an integral part in our agency’s development of our staff. The Training Unit is responsible for conducting, maintaining, and coordinating initial and continual training for all personnel. Our goal is to exceed the standards set by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.
In a continuing effort to improve the skills of our employees, the unit offers a variety of training topics which include ethics, de-escalation techniques, defensive tactics, crisis intervention, firearms, and first aid/CPR. In addition, the Training Unit coordinates with expert guest instructors who offer specialized training sessions to enhance the skills and knowledge of our staff.
Sheriff Scandrett has prioritized the citizens of Henry County by providing the highest qualified deputies and ensuring they receive continuous training to improve the professional standards of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Marc Johnson, CAPTAIN
Training Unit Commander
Captain Marc Johnson started his career in law enforcement in the United States Army where he served as a Military Policeman and a Correctional Supervisor. He began his service at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office in 2005 as a Detention Officer. Captain Johnson attended night mandate at the police academy a couple years later while working full time at the Sheriff’s Office and was selected as the Honor Graduate of his class. He was promoted to Sergeant in the Jail Division after graduating the police academy and completed General Law Enforcement Instructor Training a short time later. Captain Johnson became a Jail Training Officer, Certified Training Instructor in Firearms, Emergency Medical, Defensive Tactics, Driver Instructor and Commander over the Training Unit. His passions are the Lord, his wife, son and believes that we should “Train like your life depends on it because one day it might.

David Bedford, Lieutenant
Training Unit Lieutenant
Lieutenant (LT) David Bedford joined the Henry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) in July of 2005 as a Detention Officer. In his time with the Sheriff’s Office he has worked in various units from Civil, Warrants, and School Resource. LT Bedford have served on the SWAT team since 2009, and in 2016 began expanding his skills and capabilities by becoming an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. In addition, earning the Paramedic Certification, allowing him to serve as the team’s medic. LT Bedford transferred to the Training Unit in 2021 and was promoted to Lieutenant over Field and Court Training. He is very passionate about training and strive to create classes that are engaging and practical. He is a certified POST General, Firearms and Emergency Medical Instructor and has an associate degree in Criminal Justice.

Stacy Clark, Lieutenant
Training Unit Lieutenant
Stacy Clark joined the Henry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) in May of 2021 as a lieutenant (LT), currently assigned to the Training Unit. Prior to his tenure at the HCSO, he retired from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DKSO) after 28 years of service. During that time, he served in many roles, from Assistant Professional Standards Commander to Assistant Jail Operations Commander. During LT Clark’s tenure at the DKSO, he became a POST Certified General Instructor. Additionally, he became a Specialized Instructor in Defensive Tactics, CPR, and Health and Wellness. LT Clark has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University and a master’s in public administration from Columbus State University.
