On Christmas Day, Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett announced the promotion of Dr. Shaquille O’Neal to Chief of Community Relations—an expanded leadership role rooted in one simple mission: strengthening community trust through consistent, visible service.
For the past five years, Dr. O’Neal has served as our Director of Community Relations, and what he’s helped build is more than “community outreach”—it’s a measurable model of presence and partnership. Under his leadership, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office has documented approximately 370 community events supported, more than 25,000 meals provided to local families, over 15,000 gifts distributed to children, and more than 42,000 community interactions—real moments where relationships were built, needs were met, and trust was strengthened.
As Sheriff Scandrett reminds us: when relationships are strong, communication improves, cooperation increases, and prevention becomes possible. This promotion recognizes the impact already made—and positions us to expand that work even further across Henry County.
